PopBottles

2011 · Digital art

PopBottles — Parents, please, feed your kids responsibly is a visual art series by Italian contemporary artist Anna Utopia Giordano that transforms bottles of alcoholic beverages into baby bottles, combining the visual language of children's toys with the branding of alcoholic drinks. The project questions the strategies used by brands to attract younger audiences and the increasingly early exposure of children and teenagers to alcohol culture. Through this deliberately provocative visual juxtaposition, PopBottles explores alcohol abuse, consumer culture and the marketing strategies used to make products appealing and drive consumer purchases. The original series also included the Fisher-Price / Jack Daniel's bottle, which remains part of the project but is no longer displayed on this website due to related issues. The image had already been widely published internationally and can still be found online.

Note: None of the brands shown, whether alcohol, toy or other consumer brands, are affiliated with the project or have endorsed it; their names and products are used solely as elements of the artistic work.

“The bottles are clever and, as with all great art, are a brilliant inspiration for discussion on a number of topics: How many brands are my kids exposed to and how young? What kind of food am I feeding my family? How young are my kids experimenting with alcohol?”
